I Did not Shut Down FL, I Left Seaside Choices to Locals and Adopted Some Fed Pointers for ‘First Few Weeks’

On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox Information Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” 2024 Republican presidential candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) responded to claims by fellow 2024 GOP candidate former President Donald Trump that he shut down Florida through the coronavirus pandemic by stating that he didn’t shut Florida down, he left selections on seashores to native governments in April 2020, and “these first few weeks, we adopted a few of the federal pointers. I’ve all the time mentioned that. However then, I used to be wanting on the knowledge myself, and I made the choice that we have been going to chart a separate course.”

Co-host Invoice Hemmer mentioned, “He’s making claims that Florida had the third-highest dying fee in America. He says you shut down Florida…you had vax strains.”

DeSantis reduce in after Hemmer talked about the criticisms of Florida’s dying fee and allegations the state was shut right down to say, “That’s complete nonsense.”

Hemmer continued, “Now, on April 1 of 2020, simply to be clear, you probably did enable the native authorities to find out who goes on a seashore and who doesn’t. And I feel the rule you made that day was to restrict it to 10 folks or much less. Do you disagree with any of that?”

DeSantis responded, “So, proper, so, that was an area choice. However, these first few weeks, we adopted a few of the federal pointers. I’ve all the time mentioned that. However then, I used to be wanting on the knowledge myself, and I made the choice that we have been going to chart a separate course. And so, we did that. And clearly, Florida boomed because of this.”

After turning to how Trump dealt with Fauci, DeSantis continued, “And clearly, I feel the vital factor is that this: Wanting ahead, we want accountability for what went flawed, as a result of these folks in positions of authority on the CDC, Fauci, they lied about lockdowns, college closures, masks mandates. They have been flawed. It did a whole lot of injury round this nation.”
