Kamala Harris will appear on the season nine finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars this Friday on Paramount+, where she will advocate for voting rights.
In the episode, Harris will kick off the show with a special message. “Each day we are seeing our rights and freedoms under attack, including the right of everyone to be who they are, love who they love, openly and with pride,” she said. “As we fight back against these attacks, let’s all remember no one is alone. We are all in this together, and your vote is your power. So please make sure your voice is heard this November, and register to vote.”
Filmed a few weeks before she announced her presidential run, Harris joined judge Michelle Visage, Emmy-nominated choreographer Jamal Sims, Lance Bass, Leslie Jones, and Cheyenne Jackson to encourage Americans to register to vote.
A long-time advocate for human and civil rights, Harris has been a champion for marriage equality. Last month, she hosted a Pride month reception in collaboration with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, featuring guests such as Drag Race season 16 winner Nymhpia Wind, All Stars queens Vanessa Vanjie Mateo and Plastique Tiara, and Billy Porter. On Wednesday night, the Human Rights Campaign endorsed Harris’ presidential bid, highlighting her advocacy for the Equality Act and the Respect for Marriage Act.
Politicians have appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race before; Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was a judge in 2020, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared on All Stars season 7 in 2022 to encourage voting.
The show has a history of promoting voting rights, with queens and host RuPaul regularly reminding viewers to register to vote.
The grand finale’s second part is set to be a “Variety Extravaganza” featuring all eight queens. The winning queen will receive $200,000 to donate to their chosen charity, and three Benefactress badges are up for grabs. A new voting twist may also come into play. Last week, RuPaul announced that the three queens with the most badges would compete for the crown, but any queen could still claim the top spot and join the Drag Race Hall of Fame. As of the grand finale part 1, Roxxxy Andrews led with five badges, while Jorgeous and Plastique Tiara were tied with four, with Jorgeous holding a slight edge due to a lip-sync tie and a maxi challenge win.
