On Friday’s broadcast of “The Problem Is,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass acknowledged that the difficulty of retail theft within the metropolis has “nothing to do” with an absence of penalties for crime within the metropolis and “issues like this occur” when there are earnings.
Bass stated, “Effectively, you already know what, issues like this occur when there [are] earnings to be made, and legislation enforcement put the duty pressure collectively that I’m supportive of, and it has quite a lot of totally different businesses, town lawyer, the district lawyer, and so forth., all on the desk. And I’ll let you know that, simply the opposite day, they made eleven arrests. And so, these are crimes which are significants. They’re felonies. They don’t seem to be misdemeanors. And one of many issues that we have to take a look at although, relaxation assured, they aren’t promoting $10,000 purses in poor communities. They’re promoting these purses on-line. They’re promoting these stolen items on-line. And so, I consider, when you may have a criminal offense like that, the entire actors are culpable and must be handled. And so, we have to take a look at the net gross sales of stolen property, as a result of that’s what it’s.”
Host Elex Michaelson then requested, “There are a whole lot of viewers that really feel like there aren’t sufficient penalties for crime in Los Angeles. What do you say to these individuals?”
Bass answered, “Effectively, they particularly concentrate on that with these retail crime[s]. I feel there [are] a whole lot of misunderstandings about that. These are felonies, and in some instances…these are crimes that do have main penalties. The reforms that folks object to don’t have anything, nothing to do with these crimes.”
