The Post Fire consumed over 4,400 acres near the Interstate 5 freeway in Gorman.
In Gorman, California, authorities took urgent action on Saturday in response to a wildfire that rapidly expanded across thousands of acres in Los Angeles County, threatening structures and prompting evacuation orders, officials reported.
Dubbed the Post Fire, the blaze scorched more than 4,400 acres near the Interstate 5 freeway in Gorman, approximately 62 miles northwest of Los Angeles, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).
The fire ignited around 1:45 p.m., and by the latest update at 10:48 p.m. on Cal Fire’s website, it remained zero percent contained with no reported casualties.
California State Park Services conducted evacuations of 1,200 individuals from Hungry Valley Park, as outlined in the update.
Evacuation warnings were issued for areas south of Pyramid Lake, including Paradise Ranch Estates, advising residents to prepare for potential evacuation, CalFire noted.
“Crews are currently establishing perimeter fire lines around the fire’s edges,” the update stated. “Aircraft are deployed to suppress forward movement, though operations are challenged by limited visibility.”
An investigation into the fire’s origin continues.
