The “Game of Thrones” star recently engaged in an extensive conversation about the conclusion of her four-year marriage and the contentious custody battle that followed.
“I’m navigating a legal process right now, so I can’t share much, but it has been incredibly sad,” the actor told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview published Wednesday. “We shared a beautiful relationship, and it was hard.”
Turner and Jonas tied the knot in 2019, officiated by an Elvis impersonator, just months after her hit fantasy series concluded. The couple welcomed their first child the following year and added another daughter in 2022.
However, in September 2021, Jonas filed for divorce in Florida, initiating a year filled with legal proceedings and a complex custody battle for their children.
Turner, who previously felt like a “plus-one” in her marriage, now resides in London.
“I’m thrilled to be back,” she shared with Harper’s Bazaar. “My life felt on pause until I returned to England. I never truly feel like myself when I’m away from London, my friends, and family. I had been gone for six years.”
She expressed that she missed out on invaluable moments back home, leading some friends to miss significant experiences, such as her first pregnancy. At a recent dinner, a friend remarked, “I never got to touch your belly.”
“We missed those key experiences together,” she reflected in the interview.
Meanwhile, Turner is “very happy” in her new relationship with English aristocrat Peregrine Pearson. She described him as “funny” and noted that he brings out her cheeky side. Recently, she celebrated his birthday on Instagram with a carousel of affectionate photos, calling him an “angel pie” in the caption.
While details about her split from Jonas remain private, he reportedly stated in his 2023 divorce filing that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.” Turner later filed a lawsuit against him, alleging he had “wrongfully detained” their children in the U.S., but reached a custody agreement in January 2024 after her suit was dismissed.
Turner’s decision to leave the U.S. stemmed not only from personal reasons but also from cultural and political factors.
“The gun violence, the overturning of Roe v. Wade… everything just piled on,” she shared with Harper’s Bazaar. “After the Uvalde [school] shooting, I knew it was time to get the heck out of there.”
