Beauty Influencer Valeria Marquez Shot Dead During TikTok Live in Mexico
Mexican beauty influencer Valeria Marquez was tragically shot and killed during a live broadcast on TikTok.
The 23-year-old was inside a beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco, when the fatal shooting occurred. The disturbing incident was partially captured on video, showing Marquez dressed in a bodysuit she had recently showcased on Instagram, holding a stuffed pig in her lap just moments before her death.
In the livestream, Marquez is heard saying in Spanish, “They’re coming,” followed by a male voice off-camera calling out, “Hey, Vale?” She responded with “yes” and muted the stream. Seconds later, gunshots rang out, and Marquez appeared to have been shot.
Her Instagram:
Following the news of her death, Marquez’s Instagram following surged from under 100,000 to nearly 260,000 as shocked fans flooded her recent posts with messages of grief and support.
Local police and paramedics confirmed her death at the scene, according to a statement from the Jalisco state attorney general’s office. Authorities said they are investigating the case as a possible femicide—a gender-based killing defined by the United Nations as the intentional murder of women because they are women.
Data from research platform Statista shows that Mexico ranked second in Latin America for femicide rates in 2023. In 2024, the country recorded close to 800 femicide cases, slightly down from previous years. Most victims, according to the report, had known their attackers personally.
Preliminary findings suggest that a man entered the salon and opened fire on Marquez. Authorities are still collecting evidence. Her body was transferred to the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences for official identification and autopsy, as part of the ongoing investigation.
