The Trump administration is set to receive a high-end Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from Qatar’s royal family, which will be used as the new Air Force One for President Donald Trump’s travel needs, according to four individuals with knowledge of the plan. The jet is expected to be utilized until the end of Trump’s presidency.
Two sources also stated that once Trump finishes his second term, the aircraft will be transferred to the Trump presidential library foundation as part of a long-term arrangement.
One official familiar with the deal said the transfer will follow all applicable U.S. and international regulations, including ethics guidelines. Although the aircraft won’t be delivered immediately, Trump is expected to speak about the agreement during his visit to Qatar this week.
Another source noted that discussions about gifting this specific aircraft have been ongoing for quite a while, and that Trump “enthusiastically accepted” the offer when it became official.
ABC News was the first to report on the planned gift.
This development comes ahead of Trump’s first overseas visit of his second term, with scheduled stops in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.
While in Qatar, the president plans to deliver remarks and meet with U.S. service members stationed at Al Udeid Air Base, according to two American officials.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is expected to join Trump for the base visit.
This marks the second time Trump has chosen Saudi Arabia as the starting point for a foreign trip, having done the same in 2017 at the start of his first term.
