The Trump administration has announced it is suspending Harvard University’s ability to admit international students.
According to the New York Times, the administration informed Harvard of the move on Thursday, following ongoing discussions about the legality of an extensive request for records, as reported by three individuals with knowledge of the situation.
The request is part of a broader investigation by the Department of Homeland Security, during which federal authorities have challenged Harvard’s international admissions practices.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem shared a copy of the official letter on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I am writing to inform you that effective immediately, Harvard University’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program is revoked,” Noem stated in the letter.
The Guardian has reached out to both Harvard and the Department of Homeland Security for comment.
