Man Arrested Over Suspected Arson at Property Connected to PM Keir Starmer
A man has been taken into custody in relation to a string of suspected arson incidents involving property associated with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to Scotland Yard.
The 21-year-old suspect was arrested during the early hours on suspicion of committing arson with intent to endanger life. He is currently being held, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
Authorities said the arrest is connected to three separate incidents now under investigation by counter-terrorism officers.
The first occurred around 1:35am on Monday, when the London Fire Brigade alerted police to a blaze at a residential address in north-west London. The entrance of the home was damaged, but no injuries were reported.
The property, located in Kentish Town, is believed to be owned by the prime minister. Starmer lives with his family at the official Downing Street residence and is said to be renting out the four-bedroom house.
Due to the home’s links to Starmer, the Met said counter-terrorism detectives are leading the inquiry as a precaution. Investigators are still working to determine how the fire started.
Detectives are also reviewing two other fires: a car blaze last Thursday in north-west London — reportedly on the same street as the Kentish Town home — and another fire at the entrance of a property in north London on Sunday.
Police are examining whether all three incidents are connected.
On Monday, Starmer expressed his gratitude to emergency responders for their efforts, his spokesperson said.
He added that the matter is “part of a live investigation so I can’t comment further,” and declined to say who, if anyone, had been inside the property when the fire occurred.
