Tom Holland Says ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Will Be a “Breath of Fresh Air” for the Franchise
Tom Holland is ready to suit up once again — and this time, he says it feels just right.
The Marvel star is “over the moon” to return as Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man series. But beyond the thrill of donning the red-and-blue suit again, Holland says there’s something extra special about this sequel.
In a recent interview on Flip Your Wig, Holland revealed that the new film will mark a return to the classic spirit of the franchise, following the unique challenges of filming Spider-Man: No Way Home during the height of the pandemic.
“I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of Covid,” he shared. “We shot the entire film on stages. Now we’re really going to lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations.”
One of those locations is Glasgow, Scotland — a city that will play a key role in the film’s visual landscape. “We are going to use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we are putting together,” Holland teased.
For Holland, the return to practical locations and on-the-ground shooting brings back memories of his first solo outing as the web-slinger. “Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal,” he said. “It’s been such a long time that I’ve done it that it’s going to feel like making Spider-Man: Homecoming again. I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”
Despite the production limitations of No Way Home, the film was anything but a misfire — earning a staggering $1.9 billion globally and becoming one of the biggest box office hits of all time. Much of its success was fueled by the surprise return of previous Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, creating a multiverse event that delighted fans around the world.
Looking ahead, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to swing into theaters in summer 2026, promising a fresh take and a grounded, back-to-basics approach that Holland believes will reconnect audiences with the heart of the franchise.
