15 Injured After Skydiving Plane Crashes Near New Jersey Airport
Monroe Township, NJ — Fifteen people were hospitalized after a skydiving plane crashed into a wooded area near a southern New Jersey airport on Wednesday evening, according to officials.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. near Cross Keys Airport, located approximately 21 miles southeast of Philadelphia. The aircraft involved was a Cessna 208B, which had been carrying 15 individuals. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the crash and said an investigation is underway to determine the cause.
Aerial footage from the scene showed the downed aircraft among trees, surrounded by debris. Emergency crews, including fire trucks and ambulances, responded quickly to the area.
According to Wendy A. Marano, a spokesperson for Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, three people are being treated at the hospital’s trauma center. Eight others with moderate injuries are receiving care in the emergency department, and four more with minor injuries are awaiting further evaluation. The specific nature of the injuries has not yet been disclosed. Marano added that members of the hospital’s emergency medical and trauma teams were deployed to the crash site.
An individual who answered the phone at Cross Keys Airport said they had no details about the crash and referred inquiries to Skydive Cross Keys, a skydiving company based at the airport. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Associated Press.
Meanwhile, Gloucester County Emergency Management issued a public advisory on social media, urging people to stay clear of the area to allow emergency responders unhindered access to the crash site.
The FAA continues to work with local authorities as part of the ongoing investigation.
