Man in Critical Condition After Fall at Pirates Game
A man is in critical condition after falling approximately 20 feet from the stands during a Pittsburgh Pirates game at PNC Park on Wednesday, according to officials.
The incident occurred during the seventh inning, when the man was seen tumbling through the air before landing on the warning track in right field, halting the game as stunned players looked on.
Emergency responders transported him to Allegheny General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, according to a spokesperson for Pittsburgh Public Safety.
In a statement, the Pirates said, “Pittsburgh EMS, as well as the Pirates and Cubs athletic training teams and other PNC Park personnel reacted and responded immediately and administered care.”
Sam Miller, a witness, said the fall happened quickly from what he estimated was a 21-foot wall. “It was quick. I couldn’t tell if he jumped or fell,” Miller said, adding that EMS workers strapped the man to a stretcher to stabilize him.

Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen was among the players visibly shaken on the field as emergency medical responders rushed to assist the man who fell. Fans described the atmosphere in the stadium as eerily silent, with many taking to social media to express their concern.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,” the Pirates said in a statement.
Pittsburgh Public Safety confirmed that detectives from the Pittsburgh Police Violent Crime Unit are investigating the incident.
